Insomniac Games has unveiled the accessibility features that will be featured in the highly-anticipated Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The game will be compatible with the soon-to-be-released PlayStation Access controller. Insomniac has earned a reputation for their commitment to inclusive gaming, including an array of accessibility options in their games, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 plans to uphold that trend.
The game's accessibility features were detailed in a recent PlayStation Blog post by the developers. These include the flexibility to modify the challenge level, such as the damage inflicted by enemies or the timing for dodging and parrying attacks. Autocomplete option for quick time events and transitions of repeated button presses to simple taps or holds will also be available.
An added feature adapting shortcuts first seen in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be included in Spider-Man 2. This allows one to program certain buttons or combination of buttons for specific actions and even allows for slowing the game speed for better reaction times.
Players can also anticipate audio frequency options, helping to filter out high frequencies above 6000 Hz such as high-pitched sounds post explosions, or the opposite with a low frequency cutoff option.
Insomniac has future plans to expand the accessibility options post-launch, including features like audio descriptions providing a narrative style voice-over for cinematics and quick time events, a screen reader for navigating menus, and captions for critical audio moments in cinematics.
Finally, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be fully compatible with PlayStation's upcoming Access controller, set to be released in December. The game will be launched on PS5, October 20.
