In a surprising turn of events for fans of Nintendo, a single Wii U console, Nintendo's struggling console that was only on the market for over four years, was sold in America in September 2023. This marked the first purchase of a new Wii U since May 2022, according to the sales data from analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana.

The purchaser obtained the console from a retailer who shares individual sales data with Circana, a company that collects and processes data on video game industry sales every month. Mat Piscatella revealed the amusing sale statistics on his Twitter account while addressing some burning questions about the lone sale. Piscatella explained that the console's stock was supposed to be bought back by Nintendo but one got overlooked, drawing a funny comparison to misplacing a sock.

The new Wii U owner gains access to some unique games that can't be found on the newer Nintendo Switch. This includes the iconic game 'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD' and 'Nintendo Land.' However, some classic Wii U features, such as its eShop and the much-loved community platform Miiverse, have been closed down. Furthermore, the console's online servers are slated to be shut down by April 2024.

The Wii U console which came out in 2012 was Nintendo's first try at HD gaming but was quickly surpassed by PS4 and Xbox One, resulting in less third-party support. Despite this, it still has a fond place in some fans' hearts, thanks to its unique tablet controller and certain exclusive games. To the newest and perhaps last Wii U owner, we wish them a ton of gaming fun!
