James Gunn unveils new DCU Batman spin-off: Arkham series

Dec 18, 2023 5:28 AM

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has stated that the upcoming untitled Arkham series will be part of the main DCU (DC Universe) timeline. Originally intended to be a Gotham City Police Department-focused prequel to "The Batman," it has now evolved into a series set in Arkham with connections to the film's characters and their origins. Although "The Batman - Part 2" and "The Penguin" spin-off will exist within DC Elseworlds, a separate continuity, Gunn has clarified that the Arkham project was always envisioned to be a DCU series under his and co-CEO Peter Safran's leadership. This re-assignment aligns with Gunn's previous comments on respecting director Matt Reeves' decision to keep "The Batman" universe outside the DCU.

Will the untitled Arkham series be connected to the current DCU?

Yes, James Gunn confirmed that the untitled Arkham series will be part of the main DC Universe continuity.

It's pretty cool to see James Gunn shaking up the DCU, weaving shows like the upcoming Arkham series directly into the main timeline. It's like he's playing 4D chess with comic book lore, giving us more angles to explore our favorite Gotham characters while respecting the unique visions of other directors. 🦇🎮

Ah, James Gunn's really shaping the DCU with some bold moves – connecting the untitled Arkham series straight to the main timeline is just the kind of interwoven storytelling that could recharge the franchise. Love or hate the changes, it's clear Gunn's got a larger vision for the DCU, and it's starting to take shape in intriguing ways.

Pretty slick move by Gunn to weave the Arkham series directly into the DCU fabric – it's kinda like hitting the refresh button without snubbing the hardcore fans of The Batman. Crossovers and shared universes can be messy, but if Gunn's at the helm, I've got a feeling this ship's gonna sail smooth.
