Leaked: new PlayStation 5 controller boasts better battery life

Jan 11, 2024 8:35 AM

Sony is reportedly developing a new PlayStation 5 controller codenamed 'PS5 v2 DualSense Wireless Controller', which has surfaced on the Canadian Best Buy website. The standout feature of this new controller is its significantly improved battery life, boasting up to twelve hours on a single charge compared to the current DualSense's three to six hours. While maintaining the same features as the original, this upgraded version is also expected to come with a charging station, and may be presented in a slightly smaller box, although the controller size remains unchanged. Pricing for the PS5 v2 DualSense will align with the current model, despite the advancements in battery efficiency. Sony has yet to officially announce the controller. The news of this enhanced PS5 controller, with its extended battery life, could be an exciting development for PlayStation fans who prioritize longer gaming sessions without the need for frequent charging.

What improvements have been made to the new PS5 v2 DualSense controller?

The new PS5 v2 DualSense controller is reported to feature an exceptional battery life of twelve hours, a potential charging station inclusion, and identical pricing to the current DualSense model.

The original DualSense controller was introduced with the launch of the PlayStation 5 in November 2020. It was widely praised for its adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, which provide more immersive gameplay by allowing players to feel more sensations that correspond to in-game actions. As a successor to the PS4's DualShock 4, the DualSense has set a new standard for Sony's gaming controllers, and the proposed v2 version looks to enhance this standard further by addressing one of the only criticisms of the controller: its battery life.

Ah, the elusive PS5 controller upgrade – doubling down on juice is a slick move that’ll keep gamers happily untethered for those marathon sessions. It’s sweet that Sony’s keeping the price steady despite the power-up; sounds like a win for players not keen on the plug-and-play routine.
