In the third episode of "Loki" season 2, a reference was made to a notable Thor comics character who has so far been missing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The episode sees Loki and Mobius visit the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago where they come across wooden statues of Odin, Thor, and Balder the Brave. This is the first time the latter character, whose existence Loki appeared to mock in the episode, has been referred to in the MCU.

Marvel Comics fans were quick to recognize 'Balder', a significant figure in comic lore, sparking renewed demands for the character's introduction in the MCU. Many fans suggested Daniel Craig for the role, considering earlier reports that he was nearly cast as Balder in 'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness'.

Balder the Brave debuted in Marvel Comics in 1962's Journey into Mystery #85, as part of The Mighty Thor feature by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Asgardian half-brother of Thor, Balder is considered one of the most agile and fastest warriors in Asgard. His impressive superpowers include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, and a swift recovery rate.

The character has been a central figure in Thor storylines and even had his own mini-series in the 1980s. His mention in the third episode of 'Loki’ Season 2 isn't the only Marvel Comics Easter egg this season - fans spotted nods to Thor comics in post-credits scenes and more references in the second Zaniac-centric episode, involving an Eternals character and a lesser-known Marvel hero.

The second season of "Loki" will conclude on November 9. Adele Ankers-Range contributed to this coverage for IGN. Other IGN recommendations include Spider-Man 2, Starfield, and Baldur's Gate 3.Warning:"Those expecting a new multiversally manic season of Loki should temper their expectations."
