Margot Robbie fears 'Barbie' fatigue Is this goodbye

Jan 12, 2024 11:45 AM

Actress Margot Robbie has decided to take a break from acting after her prominent role in the highly successful summer release of the Barbie movie. Concerned about overexposure following the movie's intense publicity, she has chosen to step back from the screen. Robbie hasn't acted in more than a year, focusing instead on producing with her company, LuckyChap Entertainment. Despite being linked to an Ocean's Eleven prequel, Robbie indicates that this project is still developing and may not be her immediate next step due to its complexity.

While keeping her acting options open, she's also not hurrying back and is okay with passing the Harley Quinn baton to other actresses, such as Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux. Instead, Robbie is keen on producing projects, the next one being Olivia Wilde’s Christmas comedy, Naughty. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn expressed his interest in Robbie returning to portray Harley Quinn or explore other roles within the franchise. However, Robbie seems more invested in her off-screen role as a producer at present.

Is Margot Robbie leaving acting for good?

Not at all. Margot Robbie is simply taking a temporary break from acting to focus on her role as a producer. She is open to returning to acting in the future and is currently considering various projects.

Background: Margot Robbie gained widespread recognition for her roles in films such as "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "I, Tonya." She has also become well known for her portrayal of Harley Quinn in DC's Extended Universe, starting with "Suicide Squad" (2016). Her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, has been responsible for critically acclaimed works like "Promising Young Woman" and "I, Tonya," highlighting her growing significance in film production as well as acting.

Margot Robbie stepping back to focus on her production game is a power move—she's mastering the behind-the-scenes hustle like a seasoned pro. I'm stoked to see how her Harley Quinn legacy evolves, especially with talents like Lady Gaga potentially stepping into those chaotic shoes.

Margot Robbie's pivot towards production over acting is a classic industry move; it reflects a desire for more creative control and a step back from the relentless spotlight. It's refreshing to see A-list talent like Robbie shake it up, making space for new faces while still keeping their passion for storytelling alive behind the scenes.

Margot Robbie dipping her toes into the behind-the-scenes action is a cool shift - it's like when your favorite Twitch streamer starts doing game dev. It just shows her versatility, and honestly, I'm excited to see the unique flavors she'll bring to the table as a producer.
