Magic: The Gathering is thrilled to announce a partnership with Marvel, as revealed by Wizards of the Coast via a tweet on October 23, 2023. Comic book fans who also play Magic: The Gathering will have to patiently wait until 2025 to see their favorite Marvel characters become part of this beloved tabletop card game.
The collaboration was confirmed as Hasbro, the parent company of Wizards of the Coast, teams up with the comic book mogul to "develop collectible products" and tentpole sets featuring widely-adored characters from Marvel Universe. Nonetheless, products resulting from this collaborative enterprise won't be available for purchase until 2025.
Marvel Comics and Franchise President Dan Buckley shared excitement about infusing Marvel's storytelling depth with Magic: The Gathering gameplay, creating an unprecedented experience for fans. "Trading cards have always been part of Marvel's DNA, so these joint products take that experience to a whole new level," Buckley wrote in the press release.
The partnership is particularly notable as it's a "multi-year, multi-set" deal, deviating from the usual single-collaboration norm, such as the recent Fallout collaboration. The introductory tentpole is set to launch globally in 2025, with additional sets for "multi-generational fans to collect and play" projected to release following the first set. Along with Marvel and Fallout, other notable franchises like Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed, The Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Stranger Things, and Warhammer 40K have also previously collaborated with Magic: The Gathering.
