The upcoming merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard has been delayed, with a new deadline set for October 18th, due to unresolved issues. This information was disclosed by both companies. The original deadline was July 19th, however, it became clear that this deadline was unattainable due to legal complications.
Particular resistance to the merger has come from the United Kingdom, as there are concerns about Microsoft gaining too much power following the takeover. The issue will be revisited on August 29th for a new verdict.
The delay could potentially affect Microsoft negatively. If the merger is not finalized by October 18th, Microsoft would owe Activision Blizzard three billion dollars.
In response to the modified deadline, Phil Spencer from Microsoft expressed optimism about the situation via Twitter, stating that he is looking forward to bringing more games to players across the globe.
