Microsoft Reveals October Launch for All-Digital Xbox Series X

Aug 21, 2024 2:42 PM

Microsoft has officially announced the release of three new Xbox consoles set for October 15, 2024. The lineup includes the All-Digital Xbox Series X, the Special Edition 2TB Xbox Series X, and an updated 1TB Xbox Series S in Robot White. Available for preorder now, the All-Digital Xbox Series X will retail for $449.99, while the 1TB Xbox Series S is priced at $349.99. The Special Edition Xbox Series X, boasting a unique design and 2TB storage, will cost $599.99. Despite no extra features being added, these new variants aim to attract new buyers, especially as game sizes continue to increase.

As sales of the Xbox Series X and S decline compared to the PlayStation 5, Microsoft faces pressing questions regarding its commitment to the console market. At gamescom 2024, Xbox Chief Phil Spencer confirmed that upcoming titles, such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, will be released on the PlayStation 5, suggesting a broader availability of Xbox games on multiple platforms.

Will the All-Digital Xbox Series X be worth buying?

Whether the All-Digital Xbox Series X is worth the purchase depends on your gaming habits. If you prefer digital downloads and want to save on physical disc costs, this model offers a solid choice with 1TB storage. However, if you're skeptical about entirely eliminating physical copies, you might want to consider the traditional model with a disc drive.

The Xbox Series X and S were initially released in November 2020. Despite their strong hardware capabilities, including 4K gaming capabilities and high-performance specifications, they've struggled to attract a significant user base compared to rival consoles. The introduction of these new models comes as Microsoft attempts to reinvigorate interest in the Xbox platform.
