Xbox Game Studios has revealed that they are currently in the midst of developing over a dozen new games, signaling a promising increase for the Xbox game inventory.
While the Xbox Game Pass has so far been a successful venture for Microsoft, the Xbox Series X has somewhat struggled to produce high-profile games. Halo Infinite didn’t hit the ground running, and despite Starfield achieving tremendous success, it isn't enough to create a high-quality catalog on its own.
A recent discussion by Xbox Game Studios' representatives Crystin Cox and Peter Wyse hinted that a significant number of new games could soon be on the horizon. The talk, originally given at GDC and subsequently shared on the Microsoft Game Dev YouTube channel, included Cox's announcement that over a dozen unique projects are currently underway. Exact details regarding the nature of these games remain scarce, though it's speculated these might include games like Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed, Compulsion Games’ South of Midnight, and a potential game from Hideo Kojima.
Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, responded to criticism about the lack of Xbox exclusives by pointing out that titles such as Hi-Fi Rush and the soon-to-release Starfield illustrate a positive shift. He foresees 2024 as a pivotal year for Xbox, with the release of games like Towerborne, Hellblade, Avowed, and Flight Simulator 2024, alongside others yet to be announced. For now, Xbox fans will need to stay tuned to see what further announcements the company will make.
