The previously criticised Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 has received a much-awaited patch, which promises to improve the game's graphics and overall performance.
Upon its release last month, the game was heavily panned across social media and gaming forums, mainly due to its substandard graphics. This response was especially strong because the Switch version was priced the same as other platforms' versions.
Ed Boon, the creator of the franchise, addressed the backlash and promised an extensive update for the Nintendo Switch version. He reassured gamers, noting that all issues found will be addressed.
The update has now been released and according to the official patch notes, it brings improvements to the graphics, performance, leaderboards, and loading times. Additionally, it has also fixed some bugs and added the first season of the Invasions mode to the game.
The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). It features a playable cast of characters and offers Kameo fighters. Furthermore, it is expected to add cross-play and cross-progression after its release. The game employs rollback netcode and features various actors portraying the game's characters. For example, Jean-Claude van Damme plays the role of Johnny Cage, and Megan Fox plays Nitara.
On its release, Tom Kerkhof gave the PS5 version of the game an 8/10, praising its high accessibility, distinctive and grotesque characters, and the addition of Kameo fighters that deepen gameplay and extend play hours.
