Netflix is offering a special incentive to subscribers of its ad-supported plan in an effort to encourage binge-watching. The streaming service has announced a new perk: after viewers watch three episodes in a row, they will be allowed to watch an episode without any ads. This feature is set to be introduced early next year.
Netflix attributes part of its growth to its "bingeable release model". Moreover, the ad-supported plan has been increasingly popular, amassing 15 million monthly active users (a significant rise from 5 million in May 2023).
This development follows the release of Netflix's third-quarter earnings, which saw an influx of 8.8 million subscribers after the company started to tackle password sharing. In addition, Netflix revealed plans to hike up the prices for some subscription tiers, including a rise from $19.99 to $22.99 for the premium plan.
