Amazon Prime has unveiled an original live-action series titled Like a Dragon: Yakuza, set to premiere in fall 2024. Based on Sega’s renowned Like a Dragon game series, originally known as Yakuza, the six-episode show is directed by Masaharu Take and stars Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu. The series, inspired by the first game released in 2005, is set in the Kamurocho entertainment district and spans two time periods, 1995 and 2005. It will focus on Kiryu’s actions and their repercussions while including intense fight scenes that the game series is popular for. The series boasts a strong production team and a global release in over 240 countries and territories.

The series will be released in two batches, on October 25 and November 1, 2024.

The Like a Dragon game series, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega, debuted in Japan in 2005 and globally in 2006. It quickly developed a devoted fan base due to its compelling narratives, richly detailed settings, and intense, action-packed gameplay. The franchise has extended its reach with multiple sequels, spin-offs, a movie adaptation, and a remake of the first game named Yakuza Kiwami. The series was rebranded as Like a Dragon in 2022, with the latest installment, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, released in early 2024. This upcoming live-action adaptation is set to offer a new perspective on the beloved story and characters.
