Next Halo Game Built in Unreal Engine – What to Expect

Oct 07, 2024 7:35 AM

Microsoft has announced a shift in the development of the Halo series, revealing that future titles will be made using the Unreal Engine instead of the previously used Slipcase engine. The studio behind the franchise, 343 Industries, is being rebranded to 'Halo Studios'. Pierre Hintze, a top executive, emphasized the importance of this transition for the franchise's future, stating that Halo Infinite represents the final remnant of their old approach, and they are excited to adopt new methods. In a recent six-minute video, viewers were introduced to Project Foundry, showcasing three different landscapes developed in Unreal Engine 5. Although fans will have to wait for the new Halo game, a third-person mode for Halo Infinite is on the way.

When will the next Halo game be released?

While there is no specific release date announced for the next Halo game developed in Unreal Engine, fans can look forward to a third-person mode for Halo Infinite in the meantime. Updates on future titles will be closely followed as the new development process unfolds.

Halo is one of the most iconic video game franchises, known for its engaging storytelling, multiplayer gameplay, and innovative mechanics. The series debuted in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved on the original Xbox and has since spawned multiple sequels, spin-offs, books, and even a TV series. The transition to Unreal Engine represents a significant opportunity for the Halo franchise to innovate and captivate new audiences, continuing its legacy in the gaming world.
