Nintendo patents device with two screens that can be detached

Oct 30, 2023 9:42 AM

Nintendo has recently patented a gaming device with two screens that can be detached, leaving many to speculate if it could be a first look at the successor to the Switch console. Drawings from the patent closely resemble the Nintendo 3DS due to the presence of two screens stacked vertically. The difference is that the top and bottom parts of the device can be detached and used separately, and one of the screens is on the outside of the device when closed.

However, it is not certain that this patent points to a console or handheld that Nintendo will actually produce as companies often register patents for ideas that are ultimately not used. But it could also indicate future hardware from Nintendo. It is known that the company is working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch, which has not been publicly announced yet. There have been rumors that the console was displayed at Gamescom behind closed doors.
