Nintendo Urged to Remove Game from Switch 2 eShop Amid Patch Wait

Jun 20, 2025 1:58 PM

Limited Run Games has announced the temporary removal of Gex Trilogy from the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop due to ongoing backward compatibility issues. The publisher is currently awaiting approval for a patch intended to address these problems, which has been delayed because of the US public holiday. The company stated that while a recent firmware update has resolved compatibility for most titles, Gex Trilogy still requires attention. To avoid any further complications, Limited Run asked Nintendo to take the game down until the patch is approved and released. Players can still enjoy other titles from the company that are reportedly functioning as intended.

nWhat is Gex Trilogy?

Gex Trilogy is a collection that includes three platform games featuring the witty gecko, Gex. Originally released between 1995 and 1999, these titles have been remastered and launched on various platforms including Switch 2, with all the original humor and gameplay intact. The franchise has not seen a new entry since its last sequel more than two decades ago.

The Gex series first emerged in 1995, combining platforming elements with a unique character known for his snarky one-liners and pop culture references. Following its debut, the game quickly gained popularity, leading to sequels that expanded on Gex's humorous adventures across various TV-themed worlds. Given the nostalgia and fan base from the original releases, the remaster launch of Gex Trilogy in June 2025 generated considerable excitement among gamers looking to relive this classic series on modern consoles.
