No Major Franchise Games Coming from SONY PLAYSTATION Next Fiscal Year

Feb 14, 2024 8:40 AM

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that no new titles from major existing franchises, such as God of War or Spider-Man, will be released during the fiscal year running from April 2024 to March 2025. The company revealed this decision during its quarterly financial report, which also included the news of having shipped 54.8 million units of the PlayStation 5 globally. Sony’s focus for the upcoming fiscal year will be on high-quality productions and the development of live-service games. Despite this shift, Sony anticipates a slow decline in PS5 sales as the console enters the second half of its life cycle, aiming to balance sales with profit optimization.

Will Sony release any new big games in the fiscal year 2024-2025?

While Sony has no plans to launch new games from their major existing franchises in the fiscal year 2024-2025, the company has indicated that it will focus on high-quality productions and developing new live-service games. This suggests there could still be significant new releases, just not from the well-known series such as God of War or Spider-Man.

The gaming community is no stranger to Sony's blockbuster franchises like God of War, which has won multiple Game of the Year awards, and the Spider-Man series, which has been critically acclaimed for its storytelling and gameplay mechanics. Fans of these series might have to wait longer for new installments, but Sony's emphasis on quality and new live-service games indicates an interesting direction for their gaming portfolio in the upcoming fiscal year. With a strong presence in the gaming market since the release of the original PlayStation in 1994, Sony has continued to be a major player with its innovative hardware and exclusive titles.

It's interesting to see Sony's shift towards high-quality productions and live-service games for the upcoming fiscal year, especially with the absence of new titles from major existing franchises like God of War and Spider-Man. While it may disappoint some fans, it also opens the door for fresh experiences and innovation within the PlayStation ecosystem.

It's a shame we won't see new God of War or Spider-Man games in the upcoming fiscal year, but Sony's commitment to high-quality productions and live-service games suggests we can still look forward to some exciting releases. With the PS5 hitting 54.8 million units shipped globally, Sony's strategy to balance sales with profit optimization seems to be on track.

Looks like Sony is shaking things up a bit by holding off on new instalments from major franchises for the upcoming year. It'll be interesting to see what new high-quality productions and live-service games they have in store, especially with the PS5's continued success in the market.
