Obsidian Confirms Grounded 2 Will Lack LAN Multiplayer

Jun 18, 2025 10:03 AM

Obsidian Entertainment has confirmed that Grounded 2 will not include LAN multiplayer support, a decision that echoes the original game’s setup. Players hoping for the convenience of local multiplayer will need to connect over the internet, potentially introducing latency issues that can hinder gameplay. Despite the community's request for an explanation, nothing further has been provided by the developers regarding this limitation. The absence of LAN support has remained a thorn for fans, including those who experienced significant lag issues while playing with friends in the same household during the first game. Grounded 2 is set to release on July 29, 2025, through Steam Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, but the lack of local multiplayer may dampen the co-op experience for many.

Will Grounded 2 have LAN multiplayer support?

No, Grounded 2 will not have LAN multiplayer support, similar to the original game. Players need to connect over the internet to play together, which can lead to latency issues.

Grounded is a cooperative survival game where players control shrunk-down characters in a backyard filled with dangers like insects. Since its release, it has attracted attention for its unique premise and challenging gameplay mechanics. The sequel, Grounded 2, promises to build on these concepts with new features such as rideable ants and mounts, making it an anticipated title for fans of the original game.

It’s a shame LAN support got left in the dust again, especially when local co-op could’ve made those backyard battles even more immersive. Maybe the rideable ants will distract us from the latency, but it’s hard not to feel like a missed opportunity.

Bummer about the lack of LAN support—guess we’ll have to rely on those rideable ants to outrun the lag instead. Here’s hoping the online co-op holds up better this time around
