NetherRealm Studios has launched a new update for Mortal Kombat 1 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, aimed at fixing various bugs and improving character balance. However, fans express disappointment as an update for the Nintendo Switch version remains pending, with the version (produced by Shiver Entertainment and Saber Interactive) being criticized for its inadequate graphics following its release.

Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat, assured fans that issues with the Switch version will indeed be addressed. He stated, "Idealistically, the version we wanted to deliver would have been launched, but all issues are on our list and will be fixed."

Mortal Kombat 1 is playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). The game features a playable cast of characters as well as 'Kameo fighters' who assist players in battles. Options for cross-play and cross-progression will be added sometime post-release, and the game includes rollback netcode.

Reviewer Tom Kerkhof gave the PS5 version of the game a score of 8, praising its accessibility, uniqueness, and extensive character list. The Kameo fighters added depth to the gameplay and kept the game fun to play, even after mastering the 'fatalities.'
