PlayStation 5 sales skyrocket to 50 million globally

Dec 20, 2023 4:00 PM

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation 5 has reached a global sales milestone of 50 million units as of December 9, 2023. Launched in November 2020, the PS5 achieved this figure slightly slower than the PlayStation 4 due to stock shortages during the pandemic, mainly caused by semiconductor supply issues. Despite the slower sales compared to its predecessor, the achievement highlights the unwavering support from the PlayStation community and the high-quality experiences delivered by PlayStation Studios and their partners. CEO Jim Ryan expressed gratitude towards the PS5 players and announced that for the first time since its release, there is adequate inventory of PS5 consoles for anyone wishing to purchase one.
