PlayStation Stars Program Ending After Three Years of Loyalty

Sony has officially announced the termination of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which has been operational for less than three years. As of now, the program will not accept new members, and any members opting out will lose their accrued reward points permanently. Existing members can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and redeem any remaining rewards until November 3, 2026. Despite the program's closure, users will still have access to Digital Collectibles, including a 3D digital model of the program's mascot, a Jim Ryan bobblehead. Sony stated that lessons learned from this program will inform future initiatives but provided no details on a successor. The PlayStation Stars program was introduced in July 2022 to compete with Microsoft's Xbox Rewards, rewarding users for spending in the PlayStation Store and completing specific tasks. However, it has seen changes over its lifespan, including a significant pause in services last summer and modification of point expiration policies.

Existing members can continue to earn points until July 23, 2025, and redeem any remaining balance until November 3, 2026. However, the program will no longer accept new memberships, and any points will be lost if a member cancels their account.

PlayStation Stars was designed to enhance the gaming experience for PS5 owners, offering rewards based on purchases and engagement with the PlayStation Store. This program allowed players to earn points that could be redeemed for various rewards, thus creating a competitive atmosphere similar to that of Xbox Rewards. Its discontinuation could signify a pivot in Sony's strategy regarding user engagement and loyalty rewards.
