The premium Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Classic set, announced earlier this year by the Pokémon Company, is now up for pre-order at a staggering price of £400, already sold out on the Pokémon Center website. Despite its high cost, the product swiftly attained full pre-order capacity, signaling its anticipated release in November.

The TCG Classic set includes seven new cards - Ho-Oh ex, Lugia ex, Suicune ex, Drops in the Ocean, Scorching Charcoal, Sun Seed, and a Mr. Mine card launched outside Japan for the first time. As if to offset the high cost, the company assures the availability of these cards in a separate product set to be launched in February 2024.

The set also contains three 60-card decks that showcase the classic starter Pokémon, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, with original artwork. It comes with three deck boxes for storage, three sets of card sleeves, two-player game boards, a toolbox case with randomizer, few sets of damage counter cones, and condition markers. However, the Pokémon TCG Classic set cards cannot be used at official tournaments, with the exception of Basic Energy cards.

Despite questions on the justification of the hefty £400 cost, the swift sell-out suggests that a considerable number of people find it worth the investment.
