Pokemon TCG's Triumphant Light Boosts Water Decks Again

Mar 03, 2025 6:28 PM

The recent expansion for Pokemon TCG Pocket, titled Triumphant Light, has caused considerable buzz in the gaming community, as it introduces new powerful cards that enhance existing water-type decks, particularly focusing on the controversial Supporter card, Misty. Misty's ability allows players to gain varying amounts of water-type energy based on coin flips, leading to significant advantages in gameplay. Despite the introduction of new cards, the luck-based nature of Misty makes water decks annoying for many players, promoting a lack of diversity in the current meta. The new card, Irida, adds to the controversy by enabling water decks to heal while already pushing the limits of competitive gameplay.

What impact does the latest expansion have on Pokemon TCG Pocket's competitive meta?

The latest expansion, Triumphant Light, continues to bolster water-type decks, making them even more dominant and reliable in competitive play. The combination of Misty and Irida creates scenarios where players can not only ramp up their energy quickly but also recover health, enhancing their strategic capabilities and leaving opponents with little chance of countering these powerful setups.

Pokemon TCG Pocket has captivated players since its launch, featuring a blend of strategic gameplay and beloved characters from the Pokemon franchise. As expansions roll out, the game continually evolves, bringing fresh cards that either enhance existing strategies or, as has been the case with Misty and Irida, create imbalances that prompt debate within the community. Players are gearing up for competitive events, which amplify the need for deck-building strategies as they adapt to the changing meta driven by these new cards.

It’s cool to see water decks getting some love, but Misty’s coin-flip mechanic feels like it’s turning matches into a game of chance rather than skill. Irida’s healing on top of that just makes water decks feel a bit too stacked, which could lead to some stale metas if other types don’t catch up soon.

Water-type decks are already strong, but adding Misty and Irida feels like stacking the deck—literally. It’s fun to see new strategies, but the luck-based mechanics might make the meta feel more like a splash zone than a balanced battlefield.
