News flash for gaming enthusiasts!
This week, Rockstar Games gave a sneak peek into a new upgrade for their 2010 blockbuster Red Dead Redemption. For the first time ever, the open-world Western is running officially at 60 frames per second (fps) on PlayStation 5 (PS5) thanks to a new patch. This exciting update means smoother gameplay and more realistic, vivid graphics!
However, this announcement left players on other platforms feeling a bit left out. PS4 and Nintendo Switch gamers are still playing at 30 fps, while Xbox owners are in a trickier spot - they don't have a port for Red Dead Redemption at all.
Xbox gamers currently have access to Red Dead Redemption through backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360 original. The Xbox Series X and S versions do run at a crisp 4K resolution, but they're still capped at 30 fps. Some optimistic Xbox users are hopeful Microsoft might bolster the frame rate using its somewhat forgotten feature, FPS Boost. However, seasoned gamers are skeptical about this possibility given that there's no Xbox One port of Red Dead Redemption in the pipeline.
And then there's the PC gaming crowd. Unfortunately, Rockstar has never launched Red Dead Redemption for PC, and it doesn't look like that will change any time soon.
All these updates come amidst chatter among fans who are eager for news about the next-generation upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2, after last month's leak that suggested it might be in development. But with the greatly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 on the horizon, it looks like Rockstar may be shifting their focus away from the Red Dead franchise despite its continued success.
So whether you're a die-hard fan eager for smoother gameplay on Xbox or you've moved on to Rockstar's future adventures, keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned for more gaming updates. After all, in the unpredictable world of video gaming, stranger things have definitely happened!
