A potential next-gen upgrade for the popular video game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was revealed via confidential Microsoft documents, according to a news report. Microsoft's leaked internal discussions hinted at leveraging the game if included into Game Pass, sparking speculation about a renewed version of the highly successful Western game.

These revelations came amid an ongoing legal tussle between Microsoft and the FTC. Emails from May 2022 showed that Microsoft anticipated a next-gen upgrade of Red Dead Redemption 2 during or just after the second quarter of Take-Two's fiscal year 2023, which concluded on September 30, 2022. However, the upgrade did not release.

Though there's no confirmed release as yet, it doesn't directly negate the possibility of Rockstar Games working on an enhanced version of the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar's release plans may have shifted or the revision could have been abandoned. However, if introduced, the upgrade — promising improved visual aesthetics, performance, and faster loading times — would undoubtedly be an exciting addition to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S catalogues.

Red Dead Redemption 2, a universally acclaimed game, was initially launched in 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, in 2019 for PC, and has sold over 55 million units to date.
