redfall final update: offline mode, single-player pausing added

May 17, 2024 7:06 PM

"Redfall" is set to receive a final update that introduces several highly requested features, including an offline mode and single-player pausing. These additions come after the closing announcement of Arkane Austin, the studio behind the vampire-themed game. Initially released in May 2023 with an always-online requirement, the new update also includes revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems. Despite previous statements from Microsoft about supporting the studio's efforts, the closure will halt any further content development, including the extra content promised in the Bite Back Edition.

What new features are being added in Redfall's final update?

The final update for "Redfall" will add offline mode, revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems, and single-player pausing among other features yet to be announced.

Developed by Arkane Austin and published by Bethesda, "Redfall" faced criticism at launch for its "always online" requirement, intended for accessibility purposes. The studio's closure, alongside Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks, marks the end of ongoing support, despite initial assurances from Microsoft. Fans of the game expressed disappointment, particularly for the Bite Back Edition's content which may not be released as planned.

While it's bittersweet seeing Arkane Austin close its doors, the final update for Redfall seems to address some major fan requests, like offline mode and single-player pausing. It's a shame we won't see the Bite Back Edition fully realized, but these changes might finally give the game the balanced experience players were hoping for.

Despite mixed reactions at launch, it's cool to see Redfall finally getting offline mode and single-player pausing, even if it comes with the bittersweet news of Arkane Austin's closure. The revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems sound intriguing too, but it's a bummer for fans who were looking forward to more content from the Bite Back Edition.

It's a bummer to see Arkane Austin closing its doors, but at least they're giving Redfall players some much-needed updates like offline mode and single-player pausing. Here's hoping these changes make the game more enjoyable, even if we won't see any new content down the line.
