Resident Evil 4 Remake Is the Fastest to Hit 10 Million Sales

Apr 25, 2025 12:21 PM

Capcom's Resident Evil 4 Remake has made history by becoming the fastest game in the franchise to sell over 10 million copies within two years of its release. Launched in March 2023 on platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, it reached this impressive milestone by the end of December 2024. The success of this remake highlights Capcom's successful sales strategy, as it continues to release updated versions of its classic titles, contributing to the total franchise sales of 167 million units since 1996. Upcoming projects may include additional remakes, potentially of Resident Evil 5 or Code Veronica, alongside new entries.

What are the sales figures of other Resident Evil games?

Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake have reached 15 million units each, while Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil Village have sold 10 million and 11 million copies, respectively.

The original Resident Evil 4, released in 2005, is regarded as a seminal title in the survival horror genre, known for its blend of action gameplay and horror elements. Its remake has been hotly anticipated, and the game's swift sales success illustrates the enduring popularity of both the franchise and its innovative reimagining.

Not bad for a game that’s basically Leon’s second round of village chaos—Capcom really knows how to make lightning strike twice. At this rate, they could remake RE4 again in 10 years and we’d all still buy it.

Not surprised RE4 Remake hit 10 mil so fast—Capcom’s remakes keep proving that nostalgia with modern polish is an unbeatable combo. Wonder if RE5’s remake can pull off the same magic, though—co-op might give it an edge.
