Riot Games has decided to pay a special tribute to a Make-A-Wish student, named Joe, who became part of the League of Legends community back in 2012.

In a recent update related to a character named Jax, the creators incorporated references to Joe into the character's lore.

Initially, a tribute to Joe was paid through the Jaximus skin which featured the line "here's to you, kid". This phrase would be heard during a League of Legends match when this skin was enabled. Now, this tribute line has been added to all skins.

Furthermore, Jaximus's biography has been updated with a heartwarming detail about a young fan named Joe, who admired Jax's victories and turned out to be a courageous warrior himself. The nickname “Jaximus” was given by Joe to Jax, who proudly used it in battles, dedicating his courage to Joe.

This unexpected, kind gesture by the team updating Jax's visual appearance is seen as a refreshing change, especially amidst some controversies in Riot Games' recent past. A couple of years ago, Riot had to settle a gender discrimination lawsuit worth $100 million, and like various other big-tech companies, it has also faced layoffs during the recent recession, in addition to some conflict related to in-game microtransactions.

However, extending a simple tribute to a dedicated fan into a fuller testament of his impact offers a welcome positive spotlight for Riot Games and is appreciated by fans. So, hats off to the Jax update team and to Joe. Here's to them!
