Rumours are circulating about a potential new development in the popular Halo series. This buzz started due to a recent episode of SG Bitcast podcast which claimed that the game developer 343 Industries has begun working on a new Halo game using the Unreal Engine. This is a noteworthy shift, as most previous Halo games ran on the Blam! engine, a.k.a. the Halo engine, with the latest instalment, Halo Infinite, operating on the Slipcase Engine.

Halo Infinite, originally slated to launch simultaneously with the Xbox Series consoles, experienced delays due to negative reactions towards early gameplay footage, resulting in a release year of 2021. It has received mixed reactions from fans, particularly regarding the game's support since its release. The development of this rumoured new game signals a new era for the Halo franchise, marked by the transition to the advanced Unreal Engine.

Earlier this year, layoffs happened at Microsoft, including within 343 Industries. However, Pierre Hintze, the studio head, assured fans that they remain committed to developing the Halo series into the future. He stated, "343 Industries continues to develop Halo, now and in the future, which includes epic stories, multiplayer, and all the elements that make Halo excellent."

This news about a potential new game promises an exciting shift in the Halo franchise, pushing it into a new era of game development. However, as with all rumours, this information should be taken with a grain of salt until confirmed by the developers themselves.
