Runescape Ends Recently Introduced Hero Pass

Oct 17, 2023 9:15 AM

Runescape, the longstanding online game developed by Jagex, is discontinuing its recently introduced "Hero Pass" at the end of the year following backlash from the player community. The Hero Pass, launched earlier in September, added a new feature to the more than two decades old game. However, fans voiced their criticism all over, including through Steam reviews, with many long-time players even stopping play altogether. Retailing at $80 per year, the Hero Pass unlocked all Runescape areas and all gameplay possibilities. Furthermore, it aimed to introduce quarterly events where users could earn points to unlock cosmetic items, akin to a battle pass system.

In response to the dissatisfaction among players, Jagex announced that the Hero Pass would be removed as of December 4th. Despite this, the developers maintain there is still space in the game for a rewarding system. Moving forward, Jagex assures that it will give more consideration to what its players desire during experimental phases and will ensure there are no differences between those who pay for features and those who don't.
