PlayStation and Naughty Dog have unveiled a fresh trailer for the upcoming "No Return" roguelike mode in "The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered", which is set to be released on PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024. The new mode adds an engaging gameplay loop where players attempt to progress through levels, gathering upgrades, dying, and restarting with these new enhancements. As this is a roguelike, the progression depends on cumulative runs, enabling players to get stronger and advance further over time.
"No Return" will be exclusively single-player and does not connect to the main narrative of "The Last of Us". It offers flexibility with fan-favorite characters like Ellie and Dina, who can don non-traditional and imaginative costumes during gameplay. The mode showcases various maps and different in-mode challenges such as "Hunted", "Assault", "Holdout", and "Capture" each presenting unique gameplay experiences. The trailer also hints at randomized mods that impact the gameplay mechanics, such as one that activates the listening mode continuously.
Besides "No Return", "The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered" also introduces Lost Levels with developer commentary, immersive guitar free play, graphical upgrades, and functionalities utilizing the PS5's DualSense controller. Those owning the previous PS4 version have an opportunity to upgrade to the new remastered version for a fee, and are also able to transfer their saved games.
Is "The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered" worth the upgrade for PS5 owners?Yes, the remastered version for PS5 offers enhanced graphics, new content like the "No Return" roguelike mode, DualSense features, and additional developer commentary, making it an attractive upgrade for fans and owners of the original game.
