Sony recently hosted a State of Play event, featuring updates on a wide range of forthcoming PlayStation games. Among the highlights were insights into the Resident Evil 4 Remake's DLC Separate Ways, the release dates for Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and an in-depth look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
The virtual event also presented 'Baby Steps', a quirky walking simulator game where players assume the role of an aimless individual named Nate, who finds purpose in walking. Developed by Devolver Digital, Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennet Foddy, 'Baby Steps' challenges players to explore the world one step at a time. The game will be available on PC and PS5 next year.
'Tales of Arise: Beyond The Dawn', another highlight, is an expansion of one of the best JRPGs in recent years. The new storyline, featuring enriched dungeons, quests, and cutscenes, is set to take players beyond 20 hours to complete. It will release on November 9 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
A PlayStation VR2 game, 'Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord,' was also previewed. In the cooperative game developed by nDreams, players aim to catch ghosts and save San Francisco from the Ghost Lord using a variety of gadgets. It launches on October 26 with cross-play support for multiple VR platforms.
Further excitement came with the unveiling of the official story trailer for 'Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora', a game set on the iconic Avatar planet where players play as a Na’vi, trying to stop an invasion from the RDA. The game releases on December 7 for Amazon Luna, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
In other news, the popular online game Roblox will be available on PlayStation starting October 10, offering millions of cross-platform experiences for PS4 or PS5 users. There was also a surprise demo of 'Ghostrunner 2' from 505 Games and One More Level, ahead of its official launch on October 26. The demo allows players to engage in high-speed battles within Dharma Tower and on protagonist Jack's motorcycle.
Lastly, an open beta was announced for an upcoming game 'Foamstars', developed by Square Enix. This will run from September 29 through October 1, helping test the game's servers before its official release next year.
