Shocking turn of events: Destiny 2 pulls Starter Pack DLC immediately after release

Dec 01, 2023 11:30 AM

In a recent update, Bungie removed the controversial "Starter Pack" DLC from Destiny 2 after player backlash. The pack, priced at $15, included exotics, cosmetics, and various in-game currencies and materials. Critics argued that the pack was overpriced and provided an unfair advantage to new players, resembling a "pay-to-win" model. Bungie aims to create an enjoyable experience with its DLC, but the removal comes amidst wider criticism from fans about the company not sufficiently listening to player feedback. Additionally, Bungie recently faced layoffs and delayed the "The Final Shape" expansion to June 4, 2024. Destiny 2 players can stay informed on further developments as Bungie continues to navigate community feedback and game updates.

Kudos to Bungie for listening to the Destiny 2 community, even if it took a tidal wave of backlash to wash that Starter Pack away. I'm hoping this is a sign that they'll strike a better balance between monetization and fair play, especially with all eyes on them after those layoffs and the The Final Shape delay.

Gotta say, Bungie pulling the Starter Pack DLC screams like they're finally tuning in to the choir of player protests, huh It’s a classic dance between keeping the game fair and the cash flows steady, but delaying The Final Shape too Let's hope it's all for that smoother, player-friendly groove in the end.

Kudos to Bungie for responding to the Destiny 2 community's concerns about the Starter Pack—it's always a fine line between additional content and pay-to-win mechanics. It's clear they have to keep a keen ear to the ground as they balance monetization with maintaining player trust, especially with the upcoming The Final Shape expansion already on the horizon.
