Hot off the gaming press!

Did you hear? Tech giant Sony has reportedly been hacked again — oh no! This time though, it's not just a steal-and-run heist but a sophisticated operation by a mysterious group of cyber crooks called Ransomed.vc.

According to Cyber Security Connect, Ransomed.vc announced on both the dark web and clear internet that they have hacked into "all of Sony's systems". Yikes! To prove it, they even shared sneaky screenshots of internal Sony pages, presentations, and a file map of the full data leak, around 6,000 files in total!

As you know, Sony runs a multitude of divisions, but their biggest market mover is undoubtedly PlayStation. Even though the hackers didn't explicitly state whether the PlayStation is part of the stolen data, it's safe to assume it's involved.

Looking back to 2011, it's like déjà vu! PlayStation faced a significant breach, bringing down the PlayStation Network for over three weeks. However, Ransomed.vc isn't looking for ransom this time around. Instead, they aim to sell the data and have even indicated this in a "post date" of September 28.

Now, here's the kicker! They've found a cheeky way to get firms to pay without even threatening to leak the data. By spotting Data Privacy Law violations, they can threaten to report the companies to the GDPR. The fines for GDPR violations can be quite steep, often way more than paying off the hackers.

As for Sony, they've been keeping quiet on their websites about the breach. However, they did inform gaming site IGN that they're looking into the matter. So, while we wait for an official update, it's a good reminder to keep those passwords safe, gamers!
