Sony has initiated an investigation following the claims by a ransomware group that it allegedly compromised the company's systems.

The group, identifying itself as Ransomed.vc, announced on both clear and dark nets that it had successfully breached Sony Group's systems, threatening to sell stolen data as Sony did not comply with their demands.

The claim remains unproven currently, but Ransomed.vc has posted purported evidence of the hack, including screenshots of an internal log-in page, an internal PowerPoint presentation, and several Java files. They've also showcased a file tree of the apparent leak, which contains less than 6,000 files, a quantity Cyber Security Connect characterizes as "small."

Ransomed.vc threatens to make the data public on September 28 if no buyer is found before that date. Sony issued a statement saying they are actively investigating the situation, and did not provide further comment.

This news reminds of the costly PlayStation Network hack in 2011, which resulted in the personal data of 77 million accounts being accessed.
