The creators of the forthcoming Marvel's Spider-Man 2 video game have announced that the game will always have ray tracing enabled, regardless of the mode players select. This should present gamers with an impressive visual experience, as ray tracing improves the quality of light in games, making elements like sunsets in Spider-Man's New York setting look even more real. Traditionally, games provide different modes – performance and fidelity – the former allowing for a faster frame rate of 60 frames per second (fps), while the latter offers ray tracing but at a slower rate of 30fps. However, Insomniac Games, the makers of Spider-Man 2, announced this in an interview with IGN. Mike Fitzgerald, Insomniac's director of core technology, highlighted that all modes would have ray tracing enabled as they have successfully integrated it into the core gaming experience to deliver truly eye-catching visuals. Spider-Man 2 will offer three frame rates (30fps, 40fps, and 60fps). Although 30fps provides better graphical fidelity, players have the freedom to choose their priorities while playing the game. The addition of a new 40fps mode is aimed to balance visual quality and smooth gameplay. Insomniac also had a conversation with VG247, discussing how the capabilities of PlayStation 5 have helped them create some truly exciting moments in Spider-Man 2. They particularly mentioned the quick transitions between different locations. Spider-Man 2 will exclusively be released on PS5 on October 20.
