In a recent interview with Insomniac's senior creative director Bryan Intihar, details were revealed about Spider-Man 2's missing costumes, including the 'Undies' suit. According to Intihar, transition of suits from the original game to the sequel isn't a straightforward process as they have to be upgraded, often involving a significant amount of work. Additionally, he explained some of the suit designs had conflicts with web wings and capes introduced in Spider-Man 2.
Furthermore, not every suit could be adapted to match the game's mechanics, aesthetic, and feel. Intihar also advised that they selected costumes based on team favorites and what they believed fans would like, emphasizing the inclusion of all movie suits. Ensuring equal number of suits for characters Miles and Pete was also important in the sequel.
Regarding the missing 'Undies' suit, Intihar joked that it might be due to Peter's shyness but ultimately confessed that he wasn't sure why it wasn't selected for inclusion, indicating that it might not have brought much excitement to the suit development teams. The character team, comprising of hardcore comic-book fans, were also consulted since they poured a significant amount of time into creating the suits.
The interview additionally discussed other aspects of Spider-Man 2, like an unused idea for a Venomized Sandman, reintroduction of Mary Jane’s stealth missions, and details about unlockable costumes in the game.
