Splitgate 2 bringing Halo and Portal fusion in 2025

Jul 18, 2024 3:03 PM

The highly anticipated sequel, Splitgate 2, has been officially revealed and is set to release in 2025. This new installment builds on its predecessor's unique blend of Halo and Portal-like mechanics but promises to take things further with an upgraded budget and an experienced development team from industry giants like Riot and Ubisoft. Developed from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, the game will introduce new character models, maps, weapons, and portal mechanics. Despite lacking a single-player campaign, Splitgate 2 will expand its universe through digital lore comics and a companion app. It's expected to launch on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.

Splitgate 2 will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC in 2025.

Splitgate originally gained a cult following due to its innovative gameplay that merged the tactical shooting of Halo with the mind-bending portal mechanics of Portal. This sequel aims to capitalize on that unique formula while introducing fresh content and more polished gameplay, supported by a much larger and more experienced team. Developers are also focusing on creating a richer multiplayer experience with faction-based elements.

Splitgate 2 sounds like it's gearing up to be a game-changer with its beefed-up budget and experienced dev team; Unreal Engine 5 is going to make those portal mechanics look spectacular. It's a bit of a bummer there's no single-player campaign, but the digital lore comics and expanded multiplayer might just fill that gap perfectly.
