Square Enix's Killer Inn: A Traitors-like Follow-Up After Foamstars

Jun 06, 2025 11:01 PM

Square Enix has officially unveiled a new online multiplayer game titled Killer Inn, merging social deduction elements with intense action gameplay. Developed by Tactic Studios, known for the first-person puzzle game Claire De Lune, Killer Inn features 24-player matches where players are divided into two teams: Wolves and Lambs. The objective for Wolves is to secretly eliminate the Lambs, while Lambs must work together to identify the Wolves without harming each other. Throughout the game, players can utilize various items to aid their investigations and unlock additional weaponry and armor through completed quests. Unique gameplay elements include third-person combat, the strategic use of safe zones, and booby traps set by the Wolves. Featuring 25 varied characters, each possessing unique skills, Killer Inn offers an experience reminiscent of popular titles like Among Us and the TV show Traitors. Closed beta testing is soon to begin on Steam, as players are hopeful that Killer Inn will succeed where previous titles from Square Enix have faltered.

What makes Killer Inn different from other multiplayer games?

Killer Inn stands out due to its combination of social deduction mechanics with real-time action, allowing players to engage in strategic teamwork while also participating in intense third-person shooting. The diverse characters and unique items enhance gameplay, creating a dynamic environment that encourages tactical discussions and detective work among players.

Killer Inn joins a growing trend of multiplayer games emphasizing social deduction, a popular genre highlighted by games like Among Us. Positioning itself with a dynamic team-based setup, Killer Inn aims to attract fans of strategy and action-filled gameplay during a time when players seek engaging online experiences. Given Square Enix's previous struggles with online titles, the success of Killer Inn may prove pivotal for the company's reputation in the multiplayer gaming market.
