Star Citizen Nears 1.0 Launch, but Delays Ahead

Mar 17, 2024 3:21 PM

Star Citizen, the long-anticipated space MMO from Cloud Imperium Games, is making strides towards its 1.0 release, marking a transition from its alpha stage to a polished and feature-complete game. Spearheaded by CEO Chris Roberts, Star Citizen's progress towards its official release is a significant milestone after over a decade in development. Enhancements and technology from the single-player counterpart, Squadron 42, are being rapidly integrated into Star Citizen, indicating a more connected and shared universe for players. Despite the progress, there's still no definitive release date for Star Citizen 1.0, but the finishing touches are being applied which suggests its launch is finally on the horizon. Rich Tyrer, rejoining the team as senior game director, will play a pivotal role in guiding the game to its 1.0 status. For dedicated fans, a deluxe DLC pack with an array of ships is available, though it comes with a hefty price tag.

When is the expected release date for Star Citizen 1.0?

There isn't an official release date for Star Citizen 1.0 yet, but the development team is actively working towards transitioning from early access to a full commercial release. Updates and communications from Cloud Imperium Games will provide more details as they become available.

Star Citizen, created by Cloud Imperium Games, was announced in 2012 with a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign and is one of the most ambitious projects in gaming history. It aims to combine space trading, combat simulation, and first-person elements in a massive multiplayer online game set in a dynamic sci-fi universe. Squadron 42, its single-player component, features Hollywood talent and is presented as a separate, cinematic story-driven adventure set in the same universe.
