steam adds built-in game recording, works on steam deck

Valve has announced a groundbreaking built-in game recording system for Steam aimed at providing a seamless experience for users who want to capture and share their gaming moments. The new recording feature will be integrated into both Steam and the portable Steam Deck, eliminating the need for third-party apps like Decky Recorder. This recording system is performance-optimized, comes with options for disk usage customization, and supports exporting clips in mp4 format. Players can opt into this feature by joining the beta through Steam's settings menu.

To join the Steam recording system beta, navigate to Settings in Steam, go to the Interface section, and choose either beta option in the Beta Participation menu. Then, select Background or On Demand recording from the Game Recording menu under Settings.
