Steam Deck OLED Announced

Nov 09, 2023 7:57 PM

Valve has announced the introduction of an OLED model for the Steam Deck gaming handheld. This new variant features a 7.4-inch screen, an improvement over the original 7-inch LCD, and supports HDR and upgraded wifi 6E. Enhanced battery life is also promised with an increase from 40Whr to 50Whr, in addition to a slight reduction in weight, making the device 30 grams lighter than the original.

The OLED Steam Deck will come in 512GB and 1TB storage options, priced at 569 and 679 euros respectively. Meanwhile, the base 256GB LCD version will continue to be available for 419 euros. Pre-orders for the OLED model start from November 16, with the official Valve website accepting orders. A special edition with a transparent cover will also be on offer in the US and Canada.

Older LCD versions with 64GB and 512GB storage are currently being sold at discounted prices of 369 and 469 euros. Once these units are sold out, they will not be restocked.

Valve emphasizes that the new OLED model is an upgrade rather than a successor to the current Steam Deck, and they are concurrently working on a true successor, which may take a few more years to develop and release.
