Street Fighter movie derailed: directors exit the project

Jun 18, 2024 9:51 AM

The upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie has hit a major hurdle as it loses its directors, Danny and Michael Philippou, due to scheduling conflicts. Originally announced in April by Capcom and Legendary Entertainment, the movie aimed to build on the success of the Philippou brothers' 2022 indie horror hit, Talk To Me. However, their commitment to another A24 project, Bring Her Back, has taken priority, leaving Legendary searching for new directors. While this setback could delay production, the movie has yet to announce a release date or plot details.

The new Street Fighter movie is currently without directors after Danny and Michael Philippou exited due to scheduling conflicts. Production is expected to be delayed as Legendary Entertainment searches for new directors.

The original Street Fighter live-action adaptation debuted in 1994 and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia. Despite its mixed reception, it has since become a cult classic. This new adaptation hopes to leverage modern advances in filmmaking and the growing popularity of video game adaptations to reach a broader audience. Street Fighter continues to be a significant franchise in the fighting game genre, with Street Fighter 6 maintaining its competitive edge.

Ah man, losing the Philippou brothers is a bummer for the Street Fighter movie. Let's hope Legendary can snag some directors who can still bring the same fresh energy those two are known for – fingers crossed
