Nintendo has updated the box art for the upcoming game, Princess Peach: Showtime, to make the character look more like her portrayal in the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Shared by No Context Super Mario on Twitter, the changes make Princess Peach appear slightly less cheerful. The modifications have also been added to Kung Fu Peach, giving her a more focused, determined look.
The slightly adjusted box art has sparked conversations and some jokes among gamers online. Ryan T Brown from Lost In Cult pointed out that this change isn't limited to just the U.S. version of the art and is also true for the Japanese version. The change is seen as a nod to the box art for the popular character Kirby, which is presented happy and bubbly in the Japanese version but with a more resolute expression for the U.S.
This alteration makes sense when you consider that the Super Mario Bros. Movie was immensely successful, earning more than $1 billion worldwide. Nintendo's decision to bring the game's art in line with the movie's portrayal of Princess Peach factors into this.
Princess Peach: Showtime, announced last September, is set to be released exclusively on Nintendo Switch on March 22, 2024. In the game, players will undertake the role of saving a Sparkle Theatre play by switching between different versions of Peach including Swordfighter Peach, Kung Fu Peach, Patissier Peach, and Detective Peach, each offering a unique gameplay experience.
