Super Smash Bros Dating App Hit with Cease and Desist

May 15, 2025 1:04 PM

A fan-made dating app called SmashTogether, designed for Super Smash Bros enthusiasts, has hit a roadblock after receiving a cease-and-desist notice from Nintendo just before its beta launch. Announced in June 2024, the app aimed to connect gamers and help them find relationships within the Smash Bros community, boasting 400 pre-registrations. However, Nintendo likely cited potential copyright issues and brand protection as reasons to halt the app's release, stressing the importance of safeguarding its family-friendly image.

What led to the shutdown of the SmashTogether dating app?

The shutdown was initiated by a cease-and-desist order from Nintendo, which raised concerns about copyright infringement and brand protection just before the app's beta launch.

Known for its colorful cast and competitive gameplay, it has a significant fanbase.
