Switch 2 Adds Rewind Feature to Nintendo 64 Games on NSO

May 28, 2025 8:49 AM

Nintendo has revealed exciting updates for the Nintendo 64 games available on the upcoming Switch 2. Gamers with a Nintendo Switch Online plus Expansion Pack subscription can look forward to enhanced features such as the ability to rewind gameplay and apply CRT screen filters. Notable N64 titles like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and GoldenEye 007 will be included in this refreshed catalogue, launching on June 5, the day after the Switch 2 release. Although original Switch owners will miss out on rewind capabilities, they will still be able to remap controls. With some users already previewing the console early, Nintendo quickly responded to leaks involving a day one update requirement.

What new features can players expect for Nintendo 64 games on Switch 2?

Players can expect a range of new features including gameplay rewind, CRT screen filters, and customizable control mappings, enhancing their experience with classic Nintendo 64 titles.

The Nintendo 64 was a groundbreaking console released in the late 1990s, introducing 3D gaming and iconic franchises like Mario and Zelda. The Switch 2 aims to revive nostalgia while integrating modern gaming features, catering to both long-time fans and new players alike. This initiative reflects Nintendo's commitment to preserving its rich gaming history while adapting to contemporary gaming trends.

Nice to see Nintendo giving N64 games some love with QoL upgrades—rewind alone might save me from rage-quitting Water Temple again. Shame about the OG Switch limitations, but hey, at least we’re getting GoldenEye without the hassle of hunting down an old CRT.

Rewind and CRT filters are a slick way to modernize N64 classics—Nintendo knows how to tap into nostalgia without feeling lazy. Kinda bummed OG Switch owners miss out on rewind, but at least button remapping’s a solid consolation prize.
