Tara Strong, widely recognized as a voice actor, has been ousted from the cast of the animated series Boxtown due to recent controversial tweets relating to the continuous conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Although the show has not explicitly acknowledged that Strong's tweets were the cause of her expulsion, a statement on October 16 indicated her online activity, including contentious posts about the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis affecting Palestinians, influenced their decision.
"We believe that our public platform gives us a duty to be careful when it comes to hateful messages and misinformation online. This extends to our cast and crew.", read part of the show's statement.
Furthermore, the statement expressed that the current conflict affecting Palestinian and Israeli children and families has garnered their sympathy.
It was claimed that Strong previously liked a tweet that generalized all Muslims to Hamas and ISIS with the message "Islam is a real, clear and present danger." The said tweet was later unliked by Strong. Following the decision to remove Strong, the Boxtown team announced plans to recast the character previously voiced by Strong, while also noting that the actress was compensated for her work.
Strong reacted defiantly to the announcement, claiming that her removal was due to her Jewish roots. Spencer Rothbell, a Boxtown writer, refuted this allegation, pointing out that other Jewish individuals continue to collaborate with the show. The actor also supposedly retweeted and liked posts criticizing those participating in pro-Palestine marches worldwide, which indicated an alleged inclination to spread misinformation. Information about the recasting plans for Boxtown will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, as stated by the show's official social media account.
