The popular Netflix series The Crown is set to touch upon Princess Diana's relationship with Dodi Al Fayed in its upcoming Season 6. Netflix recently released a series of new photographs from the show, showcasing Elizabeth Debicki and Khalid Abdalla in their roles as Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed, respectively. Some of these images depict poignant instances from Diana's final days, including one notable image of Diana and Dodi in a car.
Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed tragically lost their lives in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, while being pursued by paparazzi. However, producers assure the sensitive topic will be approached "delicately". Producer Suzanne Mackie stated there was careful consideration about the portrayal of the incident, hoping that audiences will find it delicately and thoughtfully recreated.
Season 6 is the creation of Peter Morgan who also came up with the show idea back in 2016. Elizabeth Debicki expressed trust in Morgan's "emotional blueprint", underscoring the tragedy and complexity of the events. Other images from Season 6 include Diana on the yacht of Dodi’s father, Mohammed Al Fayed, played by Salim Daw, and a snapshot of Debicki as Diana visiting an active minefield in Angola.
The season will delve into Prince William's integration into royal life following his mother's death, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, and Prince William’s courtship of Kate Middleton. Notable actors returning to their roles include Dominic West as Prince Charles, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, and Rufus Kampa and Fflyn Edwards portraying young William and Harry, respectively.
The sixth season of The Crown, the final one, has been divided into two parts, with the first half slated for release on Netflix on November 16. IGN’s review of The Crown Season 5 highly praised its portrayal of tension, transition, and romantic struggles, giving it a 9/10 rating.
