The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered for PS5 has been officially announced with a release date of January 19, 2024. The updated version will include a new roguelike mode named No Return, developer commentary in Lost Levels, Guitar Free Play feature, graphical enhancements, and full DualSense controller integration. Players who already own the PS4 version of The Last of Us Part 2 can upgrade to the digital PS5 version for $10, with save file transferability. This remaster follows the successful remaster of the original game and promises various new gameplay modes, accessibility features, and improved technical performance with 4K output in Fidelity Mode and faster loading times.
Naughty Dog's announcement highlighted that PS4 disc owners will need a PS5 with a disc drive to utilize the upgrade. No Return mode allows players to navigate a series of randomized encounters and survive as long as they can against various enemies and bosses. There are unlockable characters with unique gameplay traits, adding a fresh dimension to the franchise. Other new features include a speedrun mode and additional unlockable items like character and weapon skins.
The Last of Us Part 2 originally released on PS4 in 2020 and was later enhanced for PS5 in 2021. Despite the lack of a PC version announcement for the remaster, the game remains one of the most acclaimed titles, known for its deep narrative and engaging gameplay.
