The upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game Five Nights at Freddy’s will not receive an R-rated cut, as confirmed by director Emma Tammi in an interview with Forbes. Tammi expressed satisfaction with the obtained PG-13 tone and dismissed the likelihood of a more violent version of the film. The film is based on the hit game where the player has to survive against a group of horrific animatronic characters during an overnight shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Despite anticipation and desire from some horror fans for an R-rated version, Tammi reassured that the PG-13 rating of the film aimed to be inclusive of the game's younger audience, while still providing graphic elements for fans wishing for violent scenes. However, Tammi noted that not much darker and violent footage was produced during filming, therefore a Director’s cut may not be possible. Emma Tammi also commented on the excitement of engaging a younger audience while delivering the scares expected in the film.
